What is SAE J300 standard?

This SAE Standard defines the limits for a classification of engine lubricating oils in rheological terms only. Other oil characteristics are not considered or included. For example, SAE J300 defines the rheological properties of SAE 15W-40, 10W-40, and 5W-30 engine oils in addition to other viscosity grades commonly used in modern engines.
